Suspect Daiki Hirokawa (26) stabbed his ex-girlfriend Moei Harukawa (21), a store employee, and then killed himself. Hirokawa had received a job offer from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, but was arrested for stalking and weapon law violations. Believing his job offer would be canceled, he became despondent. According to his mother's recollection, the couple had been dating for approximately 1.5 to 2 years.
