This page reports that Maki Takubo, former mayor of Ito City, Shizuoka Prefecture, was indicted without detention for forging documents and violating the Local Autonomy Law. Prosecutors determined that Takubo fabricated a fake Toyo University diploma after becoming mayor and presented it to municipal assembly members. She was also accused of perjuring herself at a special investigation committee in August. Takubo forged the diploma between late May and early June by manufacturing fake university seals. She denies all charges. Such indictments under the Local Autonomy Law are rare.
