This page reports that Misao Matsumoto, a death row inmate aged 61, died on April 8, 2024. He had been convicted of murdering three male acquaintances in Gunma Prefecture between 1990-1991 and burying them on Mount Myougi. His death sentence was finalized in 1998. Matsumoto was found to have liver cancer in January 2024 after reporting hemoptysis and was undergoing treatment at Tokyo Detention Center. His condition gradually worsened before his death. Following his death, there are now 101 inmates with confirmed death sentences.
