This page presents the 2014 Minister's Award for Excellence in Environmental Conservation in Transportation. Toyohashi City was recognized in the eco-commuting category. The city implemented incentive programs, park-and-ride facilities, and electric-assisted bicycles to reduce CO2 emissions. The eco-commuting participation rate among city employees increased from 39% in April 2009 to 59.5% in April 2014. This resulted in approximately 287 tons of CO2 reduction in fiscal year 2013. The award ceremony was held on December 18, 2014, where Minister Akihiro Ota presented the certificate to Toyohashi City's Vice Mayor Kunihisa Kimura.
