This page announces the results of the FY2024 Vacant House Owner Survey conducted by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The survey, conducted roughly every five years since 1980, reached its 10th iteration. It newly examines preparatory measures taken before inheritance of vacant houses. From 13,268 households randomly selected from those owning vacant houses, 6,294 responses were collected (approximately 51% response rate). Conducted via mail from November to December 2024, the survey covers basic information, acquisition history, management status, usage, and future intentions regarding vacant houses. Detailed results are available in PDF materials and the government statistics portal (e-stat).
