This page describes the "Camp Sabou" program implemented by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Japan faces frequent sediment-related disasters due to steep terrain and fragile geology. Rural mountainous areas are experiencing decline from depopulation and aging, with deteriorating forest management and abandoned farmland. Since 1996, Camp Sabou has been held to provide students with hands-on experience in these regions, helping them understand sediment disaster prevention and the role of sabou (sediment control) measures. Over 2,400 students have participated to date. Applications for Camp Sabou 2026 are expected from late April to mid-June.
