This page presents Japan's water balance and water resources. Of the annual precipitation of approximately 6,600 hundred million m³, about 35% evaporates, leaving approximately 4,300 hundred million m³ as potentially available water resources. In 2019, actual water intake totaled approximately 785 hundred million m³, comprising agricultural water (533), domestic water (148), and industrial water (103). Approximately 89% came from rivers and lakes, while 11% came from groundwater sources.
