This page announces the results of the FY2024 pharmaceutical sales system survey by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. The survey evaluated whether pharmacies and drug stores properly explained medicines to consumers. In-store sales showed improvement in handling multiple purchases of abuse-prone drugs (80.9% to 88.4%), but compliance was low for written information provision (84.5%) and customer understanding confirmation (64.8%) for Class I drugs. Online sales revealed a significant compliance gap, with only 68.2% of consultants being qualified pharmacists or registered sellers for Class II drugs, compared to 95.3% in stores. Further enforcement of sales regulations is necessary.
