Mergers and acquisitions that substantially restrict competition in specific markets are prohibited under the Antimonopoly Act, with advance notification requirements for plans meeting certain criteria. In fiscal 2019, 310 cases were filed; 300 were cleared in the first review phase, 1 proceeded to the second phase, and 9 were withdrawn. Four cases were deemed acceptable based on remedial measures proposed by parties, and six were deemed non-notifiable. Ten representative cases were published as references for businesses.
