This page reports that Nagasaki University Hospital has begun clinical research on a new liver regeneration therapy. The treatment involves extracting hepatocytes from cirrhotic patients and converting them into CLiP cells, which can differentiate and proliferate, then transplanting them back into the patient's liver. This is the world's first clinical study of CLiP cell transplantation in humans. Three patients will receive the treatment by March 2028 to confirm safety. Using patient's own cells minimizes rejection reactions and enables easier mass cultivation than iPS cells. Clinical application is targeted within 5-10 years, offering hope for patients ineligible for liver transplantation.
