This page is a press release from Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announcing the design decision for new regional ornamental license plates. Starting in October 2019, decorative plates featuring local scenery and tourism resources have been issued. From May 2020, 17 new regions will be added to the existing 41 regions offering these plates. Full-color ornamental license plates require a donation of 1,000 yen or more, with proceeds supporting traffic improvements and tourism promotion in the introducing regions.
