This page announces the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's initiative to implement building LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) for government facilities. As of May 16, 2025, the ministry announced the start of pilot calculations and reduction studies of lifecycle carbon emissions from material manufacturing through demolition. Beginning in fiscal year 2025, lifecycle carbon calculations will be conducted during the design phase of new government buildings using the J-CAT tool. Multiple government facilities will undergo trend analysis by scale and structure to identify factors with significant lifecycle carbon impact, leading to improved reduction strategies and issue identification.
