The "Echigo Sekikawa Taishitamon Serpent Festival" in Niigata Prefecture combines local legend with lessons from the 1967 Uetsu flood disaster. Held for over 50 years, the festival features a 82.8-meter serpent symbolizing the disaster date. All junior high students participate and learn disaster preparedness through pre-festival education. During the August 2022 heavy rainfall, residents promptly evacuated voluntarily, demonstrating the festival's effectiveness in fostering disaster prevention awareness across the community.
