This page announces the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's decision on new design patterns for regional license plates. Currently distributed in 73 areas, five new regions will begin issuing plates around May 2025. The plates feature local landscapes and tourism resources. Pre-registration starts around April 2025, with plate issuance in May. Donations of 1,000 yen or more enable full-color versions; otherwise plates are monochrome. Donations support regional transportation improvements and tourism promotion. Aomori's Inakadate village joins the Hirosaki number area.
